Millenium Spring 2000 Threads Seminar at Chautauqua Institution was an intense four days oflearning, stitching and trying to find time to explore a fascinating area. It was great. We are fortunate to be able to take classes from excellent teachers in a unique, affordable setting. Next spring we have Little Stitches here and hopefully, Seminar 2002 will be at Chautauqua again. Mark your calendars and go!
Congratulations to Judy Cain, our incoming President, Jean Klym, second Vice, and Joan Murphy, assistant treasurer. Thanks go to Mary Jarvis for being our newsletter editor, and to Susan Kaplan for being our new editor. I am looking forward to Judy Arthur, our MER Director, being here to do our installations of officers at Saratoga Steaks and Top of the Hill restaurants. Are your reservations in?
I have enjoyed being President, and look forward to being Region Rep. I really am looking forward to having more time to stitch. It has been a pleasure to get to know more of you better and work with you.

Many thanks from the ladies of the evening to Mel Nichter for teaching the Assisi pincushion/ ornament in March and to Judy Cain for the two-part Hardanger lesson in April and May. Both Mel and Judy are dedicated stitchers who make everything look so easy when they are teaching. It was good to see the finished ornaments at the April meeting.
Thanks also to Phyllis Woodard for her skill in teaching the Elizabethan Treasures sampler and her courage for doing it in eight parts. Parts 3, 4, and 5 were completed in March, April and May. We will take a break for the June banquet and regroup for parts 6, 7, and 8 in July, August and September. Many in the group have kept up with the lessons each month and will, no doubt, have the completed sampler for show and tell in October.
Others are just grateful that Phyllis hasn't thrown us out of the group for absences and lack of diligence between lessons. You will probably see ours at the Billie awards in a few years.
Quickly clean out a closet, drawer or room. Bring items to the July meeting for the auction. Wehave items left from the December auction, and an assortment of new items have been donated by Pat O'Neil and Connie Ryan, who have been weeding through their stashes. One of the items for the auction is a floor stand that s loaded with extras. We hope that members of the day group will join us for the July auction.
We've certainly had some good programs this spring. Thanks to Jean Hughes and Debbie Bender for the sampler of stitches on canvas; it was an interesting program, as well as useful. And thanks to Mel Nichter for the Assisi work pieces; we saw several completed ones at May's Show and Share, and look forward to others. The presentation by Carol Murphy, on the history of cloth dolls in America, was lots of fun, and I know several people brought dolls home with them; I've got a Topsy Turvy doll that is just so cute, I don't think I can give it to my grandson! Thanks to Julie Rimel for suggesting Carol's name for a program.
Our June meeting promises to be a lovely luncheon. We will begin to gather at the restaurant at 10:30 a.m. and the installation will begin at 11:00, followed by lunch. Dottie Christie, Corky Avery and Marion Warner have made the arrangements for us and are hoping for a good turnout, so be sure and send your reservation to Nancy Hough as soon as possible. And don't forget to bring your Billie Award or your $5 for the treasury!
This summer we will again be having our stitch-ins at Lois Lewis' camp on Skaneateles Lake, on our regular meeting days in July and August. All members are welcome, of course; please do come if you can! If you've never been to one of Lois' stitch-ins, you'd enjoy it; it's a great time! Bring your lunch and something to work on, and be prepared for lots of good visiting. And if you want to bring your swimsuit, the lake's available too. In between the stitch-ins, make sure you find plenty of time for stitching, and then bring something to Show and Share in September.
The MER Seminar was a great success. The exhibit of needle art was viewed by many, those who attended, Seminar teachers, boutique and resort staff, even drawing people from the Chautauqua community. The voting for People s Choice award was so close that 2 gifts were given. As has been done in the past MER supplies one and when Agnes of Camus International saw my distress the Scottish girl donated a second, THANKS my friend. The award winners were Golden Fan stitched by Mary Redline of Mohawk Chapter and Tulip and Stars stitched by Joan Martin of Chautauqua Chapter.
At the seminar, I handed the exhibit reins to Pat Warner-Sorci who I know you will continue to support. At this point, I would like to thank Janet Johnston for counting ballots, Lorraine Levine for helping Janet and Genevieve. Now how can I thank Ginny Jones for all her help these past 10 years, everyone should have such a friend, she has always been there and now we deserve a rest. Thanks for being my co-chair!
Spring is on the way! EGA day ladies are planning their annual luncheon. It will be held at Top O The Hill, 5633 West Genesee Street, Camillus. Each entree will be served with either rice or potato, vegetable and dessert. Please plan to attend. The food will be delicious and the program special.

The alternative program for the July meeting will be "The Queen's Flowers", a Rainbow Galleryornament. Bring your usual stitching supplies, tools, gadgets, etc. The pattern calls for the following materials:
Threads of similar weight and width can be substituted which will result in a different appearance while using the same stitch progression. Suggested substitutes are ribbon floss - 10 yds., Kreinik ornament. Techniques to finish the ornament, such as cording and tassels, will be explored at the August meeting.
As you probably know, Ann Strite-Kurz will be conducting a weekend workshop for 21 of ourmembers on July 15 and 16. The project is Ruby Razzle-Dazzle, and most of the class is busily stitching away on the pre-work (We have at least five different color combinations going; it should be fun to see them all as they develop!). We will be meeting in the ballroom at the Masonic Lodge on Route 57 in Liverpool. If you're in the area on either one of those days, feel free to drop by and sneak a quiet peek at the class. Or bring your lunch, come at lunchtime, and visit with us and with Ann. Some of Ann's books and chartpacks may also be available at lunchtime for your browsing pleasure.
An updated library listing is part of the new membership booklet inserts. Items in bold arelocated at Liverpool Christian Church, and the remainder at Fayetteville United Methodist Church. Librarians are available at both meetings to help you with your selections. Books may be borrowed for two months and videos for one month before a late fee is charged. Thefollowing two books were donated by Sue Harris and are located in the evening library:
Area school children are collecting aluminum beverage can tabs. The tabs are donated to Shriners Hospitals for Children, which sell them to a recycling company. The proceeds are used to buy medical and non-medical items, such as arts and crafts supplies for young patients.
Here is an easy service project - no work involved! Bring your tabs to meetings and I will see that they get to the Shriners. I will also collect Campbell s soup labels (and labels from other Campbell s products) and see that they get to schools for needed equipment. Regional News
