Jean's Message

Dear Stitchers,

Spring is my favorite time of year and this has been one of accomplishments. We have elected ladies to fill the vacant positions: Mary Hickox, First Vice President, Bobbie Hemphill, Day secretary and Nancy Hough, Treasurer. Thanks to these ladies for volunteering, and many thanks to Shirley Hausner for her work in filling the positions. Also, many thanks to all the dedicated ladies who helped so generously in making a successful year for Central New York Chapter. Without volunteers, it would be difficult to keep a Chapter viable and growing. I know everyone has many demands on their time and the time you give to CNYEGA is much appreciated.

Our outreach programs were very successful and the number of items we finished for the hospitals is really impressive. You will find them listed later in the newsletter. If you still have fabric or yarn it’s not too late to complete them. Joan will take them to the hospitals whenever you finish.

Next month is our June luncheon and dinner. I hope you can make it to one or both events. The committees have planned delightful menus and special programs. Don’t forget to bring your Billie award. We delight in seeing all those old projects finished.

Stitch-ins are scheduled in July and August at Lois Lewis’s camp on Skaneateles Lake. Come in the morning, bring a sandwich, your stitching and stay for the day. Its such a pretty spot and we always have a great time.

Also, please be thinking of the techniques you would like to explore next year and we will try to fulfill your wish. A list for suggestions will be circulated at the September and the Program Committee will meet on September 20th and complete the planning for 2004.

Take care this summer, have fun with your families and do lots of stitching.

Happy stitching,

Jean

News From MER - Judy Cain

The MER meeting held recently in Erie brought lots of news about upcoming meetings, which should be of interest to many of us. The fall MER Region Meeting will be held in Clarion, PA, on October 10 and 11, 2003. Chapter members are welcome to attend the meeting if they are interested.

Next year will bring not a 4-day seminar, but another Little Stitches. This will put our 4-day seminars in the odd-numbered years, which will work nicely with EGA National Seminar, to be held in our region in 2009. In 2004 our Little Stitches will be held in early September, somewhere in central Pennsylvania.

Our next 4-day MER seminar, "Celebrate At the Point," will make the teachers among us very happy; it's been scheduled for July 15 through 19, 2005, at the Wyndham Hotel near the Greater Pittsburgh Airport. I'm told it's also easy to get to if you're driving. Volunteers are needed to chair the following committees: Angels, Audit, Boutique, Exhibit, Faculty, Favors, Merchandise Night, Registration Notebook, Registrar, Treasurer, and Web page. If you would like to volunteer to chair one of these, you may contact Judy Badger; her e-mail address is JLBadger@ccia.com. If you don't have e-mail, just let me know that you're interested and I'll notify her.

EGA National Seminar 2009 will also be held in Pittsburgh, at the Omni William Penn Hotel. The dates are approximately October 2 - 12, 2009.

The new publication "American Hearts" is now available from EGA National Headquarters. It consists of six hearts in six techniques: Brazilian, canvas, counted, crewel needlelace, hardanger, and Schwalm; it was designed by EGA stitchers from the South Central Region. It is available for $15.00 via the website or directly from headquarters. It is on the EGA website now and will appear in the next issue of NeedleArts. This publication will also benefit women's heart health research, as did "Charmed Heart."

The Traveling Teacher for the region has been cancelled due to lack of interest.

If you'd like more information on any of these, please get in touch with me and I will get the information for you.

Ways and Means Wares:

Bookmark $1.50

Letter Opener 1.50

Tape Measure 3.00

Mini Carry All 3.50

Total $9.50

OR Mini Carry All Set (includes all of the above) $9.00

Tote Bags with machine embroidered CNY EGA Logo $20

All items will be available at both Day and Evening Meetings. Checks are acceptable and should be made out to CNY EGA. The bookmark is also a magnifier and has rulings on it. The tape measure is fiberglass, so one inch won't grow to two! It also has one of those click and reels right back in gizmos. Great for your purse, or his tackle box. The letter opener works very well as a letter opener. Judy Cain keeps coming back for more of these.

What about taking the mini carry all, adding a cute mini project, or just a piece of cloth and some thread for doodling and give it as a present to your granddaughter, your niece, or a friend who's shown some interest, along with a promise to spend some time teaching them. This would be a present for both of you!

Lastly remember, profits go into our educationfund so we can have more teachers to get us hooked on more stitching things so we can spend more money supporting our stitching habits!

And you'll probably need another tote bag to carry it all in!
