Jean's Message

Dear Stitchers,

I suddenly realized that the holidays are just around the corner and my ornament stitching is way behind, so I will be busy stitching them for the next couple of weeks. Remember the Octagon House tree goes up December 1st, if you intend to give them an ornament.

This month Pat Warner-Sorci gave the evening group a nice design for a bargello ornament. It works up fast and is very pretty. Thanks Pat.

At the day meeting Julie Rimel’s program on Mola was most interesting and the samples of Mola embroideries were beautiful. Also her Manlius sampler was delightful. How nice to see a sampler from our local. Thanks Julie.

Dixie Nohara and her committee have scheduled a great program for 2003. It includes most of the techniques that members requested. You’ll find the complete program listed later in this newsletter.

December is our holiday month and I hope you can all attend one or both events. The food is always delicious and its great fun to spend a little holiday time with stitching friends.

My wish for all of you is that your holidays are happy and warm and spent with your families and friends.

Happy stitching,

Jean

Shows/Events

February 2004 - Needle Art Exhibit

There will be an open exhibit for the month of February 2004 at the Baldwinsville Library. This is an excellent opportunity to display our work and share our love of needlework and a great chance to gain new members.- Kathy Fonda

Library Corner – Joan Murphy

We now have all our new library books waiting to be taken home and enjoyed. We all should have a list with all of the books. Please take advantage of all of these wonderful books. If there is a book located at the opposite meeting place that you would like, please let me know and someone can get it for you.

Billie Awards – Hildred Stoughton

As Fall slips into Winter next month, I trust you are stitching on an embroidery project you plan to complete by the June 2003 luncheon/dinner. Do sign your name and perhaps more than one item can be finished. Please remember that, if you sign and do not finish, five dollars will be owed to the treasurer.

Program Notes - Dixie Nohara

I'd like thank everyone who shared their State Fair entries at the Sept. meetings, as well as all those who contributed items for the Sep. auctions at both meetings and all those who enhanced their stashes by purchasing those treasures.

Also, Mary Hickox for teaching the peyote stitch to make the beaded canister at the October meetings. Pat Warner-Sorci for the program on bargello and the ornament project at the evening meeting in Nov. and Julie Rimel for the interesting program on mola at the Nov. day meeting.

Looking ahead to the Oct. 2003 evening program: Interest was expressed in working on the Charmed Heart at a regular meeting rather than as a separate project. This is a lovely heart designed by Lea Padilla and donated to EGA. Profits from this project will go to the American Heart Association to support research on women's heart health. Anyone interested in this project will need to order it from EGA, as advertised in Needle Arts.

December Evening Holiday Party – Kathy Fonda/Susan Kaplan

Thanks to everyone who volunteered to bring something in for the evening holiday party. Instead of just appetizers and desserts, Kathy and I decided we would include entrees and salads as well. We will be providing plates, cups, silverware and beverages. We will have a speaker from the Beading Rainbow to speak about the history of beads. There will be a gift exchange of hand stitched items. Please include your name in the gift so the receiver can thank the giver.

December Day Holiday Party – Marilyn Butcher/Genevieve Jones

The day holiday party will be held Dec.18th. Participants are asked to bring a dish that feeds at least 8 people. People should bring a item from the category based on the first letter of their last name. Categories are:

Little Stitches Coming! - Judy Cain

Little Stitches 2003 will be held the first weekend in May of 2003, in Erie PA. There will be an MER business meeting on Friday evening and a big selection of classes all day on Saturday. The brochure for Little Stitches 2003 is now out. Every member should have received a brochure by now, either at the November meetings or in the mail. Read it over; it looks like we have some lovely offerings available to us again this time. I have color pictures of the projects, which I will have with me at our meetings for the next several months; if I forget to show them to you, please ask to see them.

Just a couple of reminders: First, you can register anytime this month and your registration will count as a first-day registration, so don't delay, and don't let the brochure get lost in the holiday chaos. If you plan to go, fill out your registration form and send it in right away. Second, we were sent only a limited number of brochures, so we will not have any for new members or interested visitors unless you help. If you know you aren't planning to go to Little Stitches 2003, I'd appreciate it if you would return your brochure to me at your earliest convenience. Thanks.

Ways and Means Wares:

Bookmark $1.50

Letter Opener 1.50

Tape Measure 3.00

Mini Carry All 3.50

Total $9.50

OR Mini Carry All Set (includes all of the above) $9.00

Tote Bags with machine embroidered CNY EGA Logo $20

All items will be available at both Day and Evening Meetings. Checks are acceptable and should be made out to CNY EGA. Cash(check) and carry sales only!

These items would make great stocking stuffers. The bookmark is also a magnifier and has rulings on it. Great for little boys or girls. The tape measure is fiberglass, so one inch won't grow to two! It also has one of those click and reals right back in gizmo's. Great for your purse, or his tackle box. Kid's always love measuring things. The letter opener works very well as a letter opener (Judy Cain keeps coming back for more of these) and they can be used on airplanes to quickly cut your threads.

What about taking the mini carry all, adding a cute mini project, or just a piece of cloth and some thread for doodling and give it as a present to your granddaughter, your niece, or a friend who's shown some interest, along with a promise to spend some time teaching them. This would be a present for both of you!

Lastly remember, profits go into our education fund?so we can have more teachers to get us hooked on more stitching things so we can spend more money supporting our stitching habits!

And you'll probably need another tote bag to carry it all in!

Editor's Note - Susan Kaplan

Deadline for the next issue, which covers March 2003 through May 2003, is May 24th.
