Gerry hanna named Morrisville's Roses by the Living Recipient

Longtime Morrisville resident and retired Morrisville-Eaton Central School nurse, Geraldine “Gerry” Hanna was honored as the 2005 Morrisville Rotary Club Roses to the Living recipient in ceremonies held recently at The Fort restaurant in Morrisville.
In making the announcement Rotarian Bill Conole noted that the Roses to the Living is Rotary’s way of honoring those individuals who have “extended outstanding service to the public.”

During Gerry’s sixteen years as the MECS nurse, she always had a “kind word and an understanding ear” for the students and always “made the students feel what they had to say was important,” Conole said.

Gerry also supported the students in many ways over the years by attending sporting and musical events. After retiring, she remained active with school programs particularly the Girls Athletic Association’s Christmas Charity Program and has also anonymously helped many students attend numerous camps throughout the years. “Her generosity, known to only a few, has opened the door to many young athletes,” he continued.|

“Gerry served with tireless devotion to families in the area . . . touching people’s lives wherever she goes.”

Among the honored guests at the annual program were former Roses recipients who were recognized, as well as some of Gerry’s friends and family members who kept the honor a surprise.

“I kept thinking we were in the wrong place . . . I just didn’t know why we were here,” said the tearful recipient. “I’m just overwhelmed.”
