Six named to NJCAA academic All-American teams

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) recently named six Morrisville State College student-athletes to the 2004-05 Academic All-America team. Student-athletes selected to the team must have completed at least 45 credit hours of collegiate work with a minimum 3.60 cumulative grade point average. Student-athletes selected to the Distinguished Academic All-America team achieved a minimum 3.80 cumulative GPA.

Robert Trantin was named distinguished academic all-American while Patrice Hohl, Sean Field, Masanori Hotta, Neil Stevens, Daniel Lacitignola were named academic all-Americans.

Trantin, a liberal arts-social science major, competed for the national championship ice hockey team and earned a 3.83 cumulative GPA, earning distinguished academic honors through the NJCAA.

Hohl earned a 3.61 overall GPA and was a member of the women’s lacrosse and western equestrian teams. She graduated from Morrisville State with a bachelor’s degree in equine science in May. Hohl was also named to the NJCAA Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic All-American team.

Field, a liberal arts-mathematics major, earned a 3.63 cumulative GPA while participating for the football team for two seasons. He was a two-time all-Conference team selection as offensive lineman. Field is a 2003 graduate of Cooperstown High School.

Hotta graduated in May with an individual studies degree and earned a 3.63 overall GPA. He was a two-year participant in the men’s soccer program as goalkeeper.
Stevens completed his associate’s degree in natural resources conservation in May with a 3.64 GPA. He was a two-year member of the wrestling program and was the 2004 Region III Champion at 157 pounds. Stevens is a 2003 graduate of Southern Cayuga High School.

Lacitignola competed for the men’s cross country and track and field teams this past season. A liberal arts-social science major, Lacitignola has earned a 3.68 overall GPA.
