These pictures are from the second-to-last week in June 2005. I did not see the bear; my father took the picture. I have never seen a bear at Allegany, although somebody else in my family always sees a bear. The deer, great blue heron, and (hairy?) woodpecker would not stay posed long enough for a portrait. Even though the mammal that visited our campsite each night was only five feet away from me, I still don't know whether it was a racoon or porcupine. There was a picnic bench in the way, and it was dark. I could have taken pictures of butterflies, for example, swallowtails around buttercups. I could have taken pictures of an interesting duck - presumably some sort of Merganser - but I was busy cutting wood. I did not check to see whether the Osprey nest on the outskirts of camp was occupied.
